Did you know you can dehydrate JUST ABOUT ANYTHING?! Challenge Accepted!

I bought this Salton Vita Pro Dehydrator off Amazon and, honestly, it works just fine. A more expensive one might work the food a bit differently, but I’m good for now.

My Kid Tt started dehydrating steak as jerky, with all his fancy seasonings, for ‘school lunches’ but I soon realized that he was wolfing it down long before it ever hit an knapsack, making it just really expensive ‘candy’.

It’s handiest at Apple harvest season, as we have two trees with a total of 5 varieties on them, ripening within a few weeks of each other. Apple chips, anyone? Apple chips – EVERYONE! Perfect w a light sprinkle of Tajin seasoning – our most-used after sea salt these days.

But, surprisingly, my very favourite food to dehydrate is – TOMATOES. Somehow the liquid goes, but the flavours really intensify, making for a truly delicious “chip” snack. I’ve also used them to hold Bruschetta bites, instead of baguette. DELISH and CARB-FREE!

Cranberries from my “Cranberry Day” were a pleasant surprise, becoming like Pop Rocks in your mouth! And Red Peppers are perfect dehydrated, ground down in a mortar and pestle, and sprinkled on salads or on top of other dishes as a delicious garnish.

Add a little aioli to your dehydrated goodies and VOILA! Perfect for charcuterie trays, lunch bags, movie snacks, etc etc.

There’s no end!!!! What would you try??
