The Journey Begins

Welcome to my musings about all things Kitchen – most definitely the very heart of my HOME, and also likely yours!

Somehow I’ve gone from burning water (technically burning PANS after forgotten water evaporates) and constantly needing a fire extinguisher near the Kitchen throughout the majority of my 20’s, to pulling off (with help, of course!) full 8-course Michelin-starred recipe meals for 12 in this just-right 15’x12′ space I’m sitting in.

Designed and built now almost 15 years ago, these appliances, counters and cupboards have done their hard time and gallantly survived many a long battle. Although, not without their scars – scars similar to the ones I also wear on my lower arms and fingertips (and now entire stomach… *sigh* long story).

Why? Why endure hours of standing – most often alone, the cuts and burns, the cost of an imported truffle, the failed dishes, the fussy eaters, the odd recipe ‘writers block’? Surely I could nourish my family and friends much simpler, much cheaper, much more time-effectively.

Two reasons, really. ONE – I now like “the good stuff” (like, the REALLY good stuff!), and once you have a taste for it, little else (barring the odd Big Mac or KD craving which absolutely belong in any diet) will do. As the saying goes, “if you are what you eat, then I only want to eat the GOOD STUFF!” (seriously, isn’t Ratatouille still THE best foodie movie of all time?!). And, TWO – I may not be great at very many things in life, but by the grace of God there is one thing I can do. Gather fellow humans near and dear around an everyday table and – I hope – feed their very souls through food and friendship and give them a place of belonging.

My Kitchen has grown weary – the 5th stove burner no longer lights, the paint has scraped off and the button panel keeps falling, and is all far too small anyhow for my commercial-sized pots and pans; the re-painted cupboards and marble counter are losing their finishes; one oven is simply not enough and the existing fridge/freezer compromises my needs on both ends; my vintage dish ware collection has taken over and needs a new home (or a yard sale, according to Hubby LOL!); and on it goes… BUT – my soul is jazzed. Looking back, this was always my destination.

To cook, to share, to gather, to create, to belong and to invite you in.

And so a new journey begins… Gradually leaving a 20+ year career Architecture and evolving a shop in Home Wares, I’m forging a new path into the world of all things Kitchen, from everyday gatherings and musings about belonging, to Kitchen Design for your renovations or new builds, to perfectly crafted Kitchen goods to elevate your dining and entertaining experiences!

‘… You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. What I say is true – anyone can cook… but only the fearless can be great.’
