Hands up – anyone else love that ONE table by the Kitchen at their favorite Restaurant?? (Now, leave a comment and tell me if you raised your hand LOL).
One thing I’m VERY excited to explore this time around in my own Kitchen and in my learning process is the intersection of commercial and residential kitchens.
No, I’m sure the Chef that’s worked hard all night in a stainless steel haven doesn’t want to come home to the same. Nor would the home cook necessarily want a stark, cold, uninviting space in their home. But what ideas and movements and organizations can we take from the meticulously planned workings of a restaurant kitchen might be the spark that sets our working at home up onto a whole new level? Can a stainless commercial kitchen have a homey FEEL, or can a warm, residential one also act as a high-end work horse?
Unfortunately as I spend unending hours on Google, I’m finding very little information out there on *just* THAT sexy marriage of steel and wood I have in my mind… Which means I’ll have to figure it out for myself.
Challenge ACCEPTED.

I’ve found that searching “French Bistro Kitchen” leads to some wonderful results. And as a decades-long Francophile, this is my happy place! My ‘Les Puces de St-Ouen’ vintage market finds would be rather comfy living in this theme, non?

I had a visit with the local Valcucine cabinets dealer (in Montauk Sofa here in Vancouver) for a more modern, but hugely customizable that could go more commercially-styled for residential. I also love the extra deep counter options – as I’ll DEFINITELY be installing 30” deep countertops again in my own Kitchen.

As you can see, this research into the intersection of a commercial-residential styled Kitchen could go off in any number of directions, which is ultimately great because I’m sure my future Clients will have a wide variety of tastes and preferences.
If you want to follow along with some of my research, find my “the akHOME Kitchen” board on Pinterest (I say “find” because right now I can’t figure out how to link it LOL – be patient! I haven’t “blogged” in years!).

Ohhhh but this is gonna be fun!
